What account opening methods does Phillip Securities offer? Does online opening require visiting a branch?
We provide both online and offline account opening options. Online opening does not require visiting a branch—just provide the required information (e.g., ID proof, address proof, initial deposit proof) to complete; offline requires visiting our head office or branches.
What identification and address proof documents do I need to upload for account opening?
You must prepare electronic copies of the account holder's identity document (e.g., Hong Kong ID card or passport) and proof of residential and correspondence address issued within the last three months (P.O. Box addresses not accepted). All documents must clearly show the name and relevant details.
If I don't sign the account opening form in front of a Phillip staff member, what verification is required?
You must successfully transfer an initial deposit of not less than HKD 10,000 from your designated bank account (held in your name at a licensed Hong Kong bank) to Phillip Hong Kong's bank account. All future fund transfers must be made via this verified designated bank account.
Who is eligible for online account opening? Any age restrictions?
Individuals aged 18 to 74 can open accounts online. If you are 75 or above, please use offline account opening (in-person).
Can overseas persons open an account?
Overseas persons can apply for online account opening as long as they have a bank account opened with a licensed Hong Kong bank and provide valid identity documents and proof of address.
Who is currently not eligible to open an account?
We do not currently accept account opening applications from US citizens or US permanent residents (green card holders). We apologize for any inconvenience.
What identification documents do I need for account opening? Is there a specific order?
Under the Hong Kong Investor Identification Regime (HKIDR), you must provide documents in this priority order: (1) Hong Kong Identity Card; (2) Resident identity document; (3) Passport. If you lack the first option, provide the next. Upload clear electronic copies and fill in the required details.
What is a "designated bank account"? Any requirements?
The designated bank account must be held in the client's own name at a licensed bank in Hong Kong, which is an authorized institution regulated by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA). For details, refer to the HKMA's "Three-tier Banking System" page: link.
What is the purpose of the bank details I fill in the form?
The bank account details you enter in the fields below will become your designated bank account with Phillip Securities, used for all future deposits and withdrawals.
How do future deposits and withdrawals work? Can I use other bank accounts later?
No. All future deposits to and withdrawals from your trading account must be made exclusively via your registered designated bank account. Deposits must be transferred via internet banking from the designated account to our company's bank account.
Does the initial deposit have a minimum amount or other requirements?
Yes. You must successfully transfer an initial deposit of not less than HKD 10,000 from your designated bank account to the bank account of Phillip Securities (Hong Kong) Limited. The HKD 10,000 must exclude any bank fees, and you must upload the relevant deposit proof via this form.
Can family or friends deposit on my behalf?
Third-party deposits are not accepted. Any exceptions require prior management approval with sufficient proof.
What if my deposit/bank proof seems unclear?
If we consider your deposit proof insufficient to verify the bank account is in your name, we reserve the right to contact you and request further information or documents.
If I use a joint bank account as my designated account or for deposits/withdrawals, are there extra requirements?
Yes, but if any joint account holder is not a Phillip client, you must explain your relationship with that holder and provide their identity document, plus bank proof (e.g., statement or card) showing all joint holders' names.
Can I deposit via Alipay, BoC Pay, PayMe, or other stored value facilities?
No. We do not accept deposits via stored value facilities (SVF), including but not limited to Alipay, BoC Pay, and PayMe.
What bank documents do I need to upload as proof? Any special requirements?
Upload documents clearly showing your name and bank account number, such as a bank statement or a copy of the front of your bank card with full name and account number. The proof must match your registered bank account details exactly, including name and number.
How do I deposit via Faster Payment System (FPS)? What details are needed?
Yes. For FPS transfers, enter your phone number registered with us during account opening in the remark field ("Message to payee" / "Recipient reference")—do not add other info. Phillip's FPS receiving number is 96908828, payee name: "Phillip Securities (Hong Kong) Ltd". After account activation, use your account number (not phone) in remarks for transfers. Third-party deposits are not accepted.
How long does online account opening take?
Typically 1–2 business days (depending on review progress).
